Mexico
ChildFund began working in Mexico in 1948, with our programs supporting vulnerable children in some of the most isolated and impoverished parts of the country.
Mexico has become one of the world’s most dynamic emerging economies, but the Central American country’s long history of poverty remains a reality. Corruption and gang-related violence are still widespread, and many children continue to drop out of school and join the workforce to support their families.
Our priorities are:
Hundreds of thousands of children are working, many of whom are in dangerous and under-regulated industries such as manufacturing, mining and farming.
Many children from poor families do not have the opportunity to finish school, putting them at a severe disadvantage in the workforce and locking them into a cycle of poverty.
While the number of healthcare services has grown in recent times, the quality of support remains very poor.
