Many children in Cambodia, and girls in particular, are unable to attend school without a bicycle. Schools may often be located too far from their homes and safety is a concern. A bicycle is a great way to give girls safer access to education and hundreds of children in the Svay Rieng province of Cambodia are already going to school more regularly, thanks to the support of ChildFund’s Donations with a Difference program.

“When I received a bicycle from ChildFund Cambodia I am very happy. In the past, it took me 30 minutes to go to school. It was very difficult. It was hot, and painful in my legs. Sometimes, I could not arrive school on time because I didn’t have a bicycle. Now I have received a bicycle it is easier for me to go to school, it is not like in the past. I am trying my best to complete grade 12 and I will to be a good tailor to support my family”.

Cambodia`s vegetation cover has been reduced by logging and deforestation over the last thirty years. The aim of the tree planting activities is to contribute to the reduction of climate change, offset the summer heat by providing some shade and the environmental impact on soil erosion during the wet season if there is inadequate vegetation. Public tree planting is a focus in village communities – inside the school campus, on public land and along the roadsides. From public tree planting projects, communities will be encouraged to love the trees and forest and understand and learn the value of forests and vegetation.

“ChildFund has started working in my village and provided household latrines to families, school kits to students and celebrated International children`s day. And today ChildFund provided Mango tree to my family, I will grow it near the well in my household land. I think that, the mango tree not only provides shade in my villages, but it will also provide fruit that can be used as food as well; and I feel happy that ChildFund provided mango trees to community household in my village.”
